3375 - Maritime Specialist (Cartography)

OVERVIEW:

The Cartographer will apply Maritime domain geospatial knowledge to acquire, analyze, compile, and disseminate location-based information and intelligence to populate, update geospatial databases and create GEOINT products. Responsibilities includes referencing source materials, updating and/or creating geospatial database entries, and nautical charts. Work will be submitted through the QA/QC process and is required to meet strict deadlines. Will provide services to the Customer’s Source Directorate, Maritime Safety Office (SFH).

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Support Standard Nautical Chart (SNC) production by performing cartographic functions using the Enterprise Product On-Demand (ePODs) production process
  • Provide support to Notice to Mariners production
  • Extract features from a variety of sources, including but not limited to nautical charts, digital hydrographic survey data, and imagery to update Digital Nautical Charts (DNC) and Electronic Navigation Charts (ENC)
  • Compile, recompile or update maritime features and attributes within ESRI-based FGMOD production system
  • Improve existing production processes by writing Python scripts or ESRI models
  • Nautical data conversion and migration

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in geography, cartography, imagery analysis or military equivalent; Additional experience can be substituted for education
  • 0 - 12 years of experience in geography, cartography, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which includes skill in ArcGIS applications
  • Ability to analyze imagery and non-imagery sources to application to NGA hydrographic products and databases
  • Experience creating shapefiles, geodatabases, and features
  • Experience working with ESRI Production Line Tool Set (PLTS), Nautical Charting, Production Mapping, and Defense Mapping extensions or similar toolsets
  • Ability to geo-rectify maps, charts and various sources
  • Experience in the Maritime GEOINT domain
  • Knowledge of the S57 data format
  • Clear and effective written and oral communication with team members and customer(s)
  • Comfortable working with a team to achieve project completion
  • Understands and applies more advanced concepts and processes to tasks
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency using MS Office Suite

CLEARANCE:

  • TS/SCI minimum with ability to obtain and maintain CI Polygraph
